COMMISSIONS

Modeled after Chicago-based Hyde Park Art Center’s commissioning program, Not Just Another Pretty Face, The Drawing Studio’s commissions involve a broad range of collectors and artists. This is a special opportunity for individuals, families, and businesses to acquire new works of art while participating in the creative process.

Commissions allow TDS to play matchmaker for artists and potential art buyers, facilitating a fun, accessible process that can build lasting relationships, create a new base of support for artists, can invest in the vitality of Tucson’s cultural community.

Commissions can range from several hundred to thousands of dollars. By commissioning a work, you are directly supporting the artist and TDS’s mission and programs.

How are Commission Prices Determined?

TDS will assist collectors and artists in negotiating budgets. TDS will receive a 50 percent of the set commission price as a charitable contribution from the collector. The other 50 percent is paid to the artist.

How Can I Participate?

The first step is to schedule a personal consultation with TDS, or arrange for a presentation to a small group in your home or business. We will present to you a range of local artists and aesthetics – from printmakers to sculptors, painters to metalworkers – and help you explore your vision and its potential. Then we will match you with an artist!

Figurative, abstract or installation works could result. We encourage commissioners to explore how contemporary art can fit into their lives! Likewise, we want artists to be innovative and have fun talking through the possibilities with their collectors.
