COMBINING Art + Movement

“I’ve been depressed for a long time. This is the first time I’ve smiled in months.”

– Adult living in transitional housing

The Drawing Studio’s combination of art and movement, ArtMoves, integrates instruction in visual art, dance, and other art forms to allow participants to experience themselves in new, creative ways.

ArtMoves acknowledge that trauma of all forms – homelessness, illness, grief, abuse, war, poverty – cuts us off from our inherent ability to express ourselves creatively. The program’s activities reconnect people to their own artistic expression as a source of strength, healing, and well-being.

The Drawing Studio partners with other nonprofits to bring ArtMoves workshops to diverse populations, including children and adults who are homeless, children being raised by grandparents, low-income seniors, veterans served by the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System, and the staff and caretakers who work with these populations. Nonprofit partners include Primavera Foundation, Sentinel Plaza, and others.

ArtMoves is made possible in part by a grant from The Knisely Family Foundation, a family foundation for building strong communities. If you would like to bring ArtMoves to your organization, please contact us at 520-620-0947 or email outreach@thedrawingstudio.org
