The Drawing Studio today announced that Julie Glass has been appointed to the role of interim executive director. In this role, she responsible for the studio art center’s day-to-day operations, as well as developing plans in collaboration with the board.

“On behalf of the entire board, I welcome Julie to her role as interim executive director,” said Brenna Lacey, chair of The Drawing Studio’s board of directors. “Julie brings with her a deep background in operations, management, development and planning. She is committed to the Tucson community. We are thrilled to have her professional skills and passion for the arts.”

Glass has lived in Tucson since 1994. Prior to joining The Drawing Studio, she spent 11 years as business manager for Repp+Mclain Design & Construction. She also served as the operations manager for JoAnn Fabrics. Glass studied Computer Information Systems and accounting at National College in Rapid City, South Dakota. Glass replaces Stephanie Balzer, who served as executive director from June 2015 through September 2017. Balzer now is pursuing an opportunity out of state.

“The Drawing Studio will always be a special organization to me. I’m excited to stay engaged as a donor,” Balzer said. “Leading a community arts organization has been transformative for me personally and professionally.”

“The Drawing Studio makes arts learning accessible to everyone,” Glass said. “I’m inspired by all of the creative energy around me and looking forward to our future growth.”
