Senior recreation

The Drawing Studio’s Outreach Art Tutoring for Seniors (OATS) program places teaching artists in community settings such as libraries and senior living centers. In this way, The Drawing Studio can provide flexible, adaptable, and free drawing and painting instruction to those with restrictions that prevent their access to our studio classes, whether it is transportation, mobility, or financial resources.

Older adults bring to creative learning a wealth of openness, insight and wisdom earned from a lifetime of experience. OATS classes are designed to both challenge and encourage participants through lessons that emphasize observation, practice and peer support. Instructors present creative exercises for students that train the hand to record what the eyes see.

Partnering with senior living facilities

The Drawing Studio partners with a number of local retirement communities and other senior resident facilities to provide residents with OATS instruction. Our partners include La Cañada Care, Amber Lights, The Forum at Tucson, and Atria Campana del Rio. To bring art instruction and practice to your agency, contact us at education@thedrawingstudio.org, or call 520-620-0947.

OATS at Pima County Library

Through the public library, OATS classes offer instruction in drawing, color, watercolor and collage to seniors who cannot attend or afford courses at our studio. Contact the Library under the class to register.
