The Drawing Studio’s Outreach Art Tutoring for Seniors (OATS) program places teaching artists in community settings such as libraries and senior living centers. In this way, TDS can provide flexible, adaptable, and free drawing and painting instruction to those with restrictions that prevent their access to our studio classes, whether it is transportation, mobility, or financial resources.
Older adults bring to creative learning a wealth of openness, insight and wisdom earned from a lifetime of experience. OATS classes are designed to both challenge and encourage participants through lessons that emphasize observation, practice and peer support. Instructors present creative exercises for students that train the hand to record what the eyes see.
Partnering with senior living facilities
TDS partners with a number of local retirement communities and other senior resident facilities to provide residents with OATS instruction. Our partners include La Cañada Care, Amber Lights, The Forum at Tucson, and Atria Campana del Rio. To bring art instruction and practice to your agency, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 520-620-0947.
OATS, our Pima County Library program
OATS classes take place at a number of Pima County Public Libraries in the fall, winter and spring. Through this program, teaching artists offer instruction in drawing, color, watercolor and more to those who cannot attend or afford courses at our studio. Library classes meet for half as long as TDS studio classes per session. Fall/Winter 2017-18 classes will be posted soon.
