It’s No Joke!

The beautiful spring weather is here in Tucson. What better way to enjoy getting out and about, by enrolling in an art class today. Whether it’s downtown or at one of our convenient satellite locations, you’ll enjoy trying a new medium or finally enrolling in that Drawing Fundamentals class you’ve been thinking about…

Drawing Fundamentals: the key to learning the skills of observational drawing. These skills can be applied towards a broader understanding and use in your art practice. TDS has 3 levels of “DF”, with start dates throughout the year. Beginning 4/5: DF1, with Maria Arvayo, at the Main Studio; on 4/8: DF1 with Lynn Fleischman at Hummingbird House satellite; and DF3 (also with Lynn) at Casas Adobes satellite. Drawing by anonymous student.

Don’t let Perspective give you a headache! Meet it head on in Mano Sotelo‘s Perspective class at the Main studio beginning 4/23. Study and practice the skills you need to accurately portray your subject matter. Image courtesy of Gage Academy.

Art of Summer, a summer visual art immersion program for students age 9-18 years is coming! Find out more by visiting the Open House on May 18, 2-4 pm.

The Dawn Emerson workshop was a success last weekend. Thank you to all who attended and volunteered to make this event a highlight to TDS programming. Dawn at work at right.

In the Gallery: Love Your Mother (Earth). A juried group exhibit related to environmental issues opens April 5, 6-8pm. Continues through April 26. Above collage by Linda Cato.

Color Fundamentals: it’s a choice you make to deepen your knowledge. At TDS we offer Color Fundamentals in 2 levels, in most media, to give you the knowledge and practice to use color with skill. This month, beginning 4/17: Color Fundamentals/Oil paint, Level 1 with Betina Fink (work featured above) at Metal Arts Village. Beginning 4/23: Color Fundamentals/Oil paint, Level 2 with Meredith Milstead at Hummingbird House.

Yupo Workshop on 4/19 with Sherry Bryant. Yupo is a synthetic paper that has a surface you can glide on (your paint that is). This paper can also be wiped clean and used again and again. Nothing short of surprises! Another painting class beginning 4/28: Abstract Painting with Lisa Mishler at Hummingbird House.

Mono printmaking: it’s not just for printmakers! This month TDS offers two printmaking one-day workshops, great for artists of all levels. All printmaking classes are at the Main studio. On 4/5: Monoprint Magic with Lynn Fleischman; on 4/25: Monoprint with Pastel with Pat Dolan. Monoprint image at right by Ka Fisher.
