The Drawing Studio Fall Membership Drive

Every fall tens of thousands of Sandhill cranes migrate to the southwestern United States, including Arizona’s Sulphur Springs Valley just 100 miles SE of Tucson. It’s not unusual for 30,000 or more of the cranes to spend winter here, taking refuge in the mild climate.
For cranes, safety in numbers is a practical concern. As they prepare to fly south, the birds form large groups. Together, they fly more efficiently and can endure hardships of a large journey. Once settled in their winter home, the immense collective provides warmth and safety.
Fall is also a busy time at The Drawing Studio. New classes begin, and many of our activities focus welcoming new and returning students. Some TDS alumni arrive this time of year after spending summer in cooler climates. Like the Sandhill cranes, they are a welcome sight!
We welcome our returning friends and we welcome our new friends, because, in truth, The Drawing Studio is essentially a
collective of friends. Without its 1000 students, TDS simply would have no reason to exist. But it doesn’t stop there. Affordable classes, programs, and daily functioning at TDS are sustained over time by financial support from membership, donations and grants, and by the efforts of dedicated volunteers. In other words: it’s a group effort!
The membership program of TDS defines “group effort” in meaningful ways. A healthy, sizable membership insures a steady flow of income. When many of us come together to support and sustain The Drawing Studio, we all benefit. We’re able to fly farther and soar higher, endure setbacks and hard times. Like the Sandhill cranes, our strength lies in our numbers.
“Senbazuru” is a group of one thousand origami paper cranes held together by strings. An ancient legend promises that anyone who folds 1000 origami cranes will be granted a wish. This is the theme of The Drawing Studio 2013 Fall Membership Drive. Inspired by the Sandhill cranes, “Senbazuru” is a way to honor all who gather with us to co-create this unique, inclusive community. It also underscores our goal: 1000 members! Currently, TDS has 320 members. That’s 1/3 of students enrolled in TDS classes. Why not all 1000 in the fold!
As a TDS member you’re not just providing financial support. You are an essential participant in a community of inspiring, engaged individuals. TDS members get class discounts, discounts at area art supply stores, and opportunities to show artwork, to name a few privileges. But the true benefits are priceless. TDS membership opens doors to connection, learning, and
creativity. And what price can you put on knowing that YOU, with the help of others, sustain The Drawing Studio?
During the coming weeks, we will fold an origami crane to represent every current TDS member and continue folding cranes as new members join. We have a lot of cranes to fold, and many members to gain. Join the fold! Become a member. Fold cranes with us, or learn how! You’re already a part of TDS. Spread your wings: help TDS fly high!
It is said that a thousand folded cranes makes a wish come true. Join the fold.
