Welcome to Studio View, a blog for people seeking a deeper connection to The Drawing Studio and Tucson’s visual arts community.
Studio View is designed to be a go-to place for those who are interested in art, whether as a creator or appreciator, regardless of medium and genre. It will feature a variety of articles and stories, including posts about the nature of creativity, shoptalk and practical advice on art making, interviews, online galleries, works-in-progress, and more. Visual, educational, and inspirational, Studio View will include content from a variety of contributors and a number of perspectives.
Underlying this new venture is one of TDS’s core beliefs: creative thinkers benefit from connecting to and sharing their work with others. A sense of community and belonging is essential to personal and artistic growth.
If a blog can strengthen our community, it’s only because TDS can draw on a 25-year history of engagement that continues today. Tucson artists contribute work to our gallery shows and art sales. Members and volunteers help with community organizing, events, and Open Studios. Faculty dedicate themselves to developing courses and designing student projects. Students pitch in after class to put away tables and chairs.
Nothing replaces real life connections. But we hope Studio View will be another manifestation of this collective spirit. Over time, the blog will grow to be a bank of stories and a wealth of insight on what it means to move through this world as an artist.
Finally, Studio View will serve an extension of our education mission. It’s a platform where our values, beliefs and experiences can be accessible to everyone, regardless of whether they are taking classes.
For our loyal readers of Andy’s Window, Studio View will complement, not replace it. Penned by Drawing Studio Founder Andy Rush, Andy’s Window will continue to feature essays on art, aesthetics, and the artist’s life.
In advance, thank you for being a part of this new venture! Please bookmark Studio View and stay tuned for more. Also consider subscribing to our e-newsletter to get notices of blog posts, classes, and events, delivered directly to your inbox.
In gratitude for your belief in the power of creativity,
— Stephanie Balzer, executive director
